Swakop Uranium re-affirms commitment to the Namibian Government National Agenda

Swakop Uranium through the Swakop Uranium Foundation donated a total of 1000 beds, 1000 matrasses, 1000 blankets and PPE to the Office of the Erongo Regional Governor for distribution to various needy communities in Namibia including the Karas, Zambezi, Omaheke, and Otjozondjupa regions respectively.  A special donation will be made to the SAN People in Tsumkwe and Epukiro.  The equipment’s original cost was about N$1,3 million and was used at the Husab village during the construction phase of the Husab mine. 

The Official handover ceremony was held on Thursday 12 July, 2018 at the Husab Tower and the audience included Erongo Regional Governor Hon. Cleophas Mutjavikua, Swakop Uranium CEO Mr. Cai Yusheng, Vice President: HR &OOC Mr. Percy McCallum, Erongo Regional Director of Education Mr. John Awaseb, Local Authority Councilors and members from the various media houses.

On top of the donated items, a further donation of N$128, 418.00 from the 2017 Annual Husab Marathon funds was donated to the Katora Primary School in Usakos, Dibasen Primary School in Swakopmund and Omatjete Primary School in Omatjete.  The funds will be used to purchase various items such as building material and school equipment. 

Speaking at the event, Mr. Cai Yusheng highlighted that the ceremony reaffirms Swakop Uranium’s commitment towards the Namibian Government’s drive to assist the needy and provide support to the needy in various Namibian communities.

Hon Cleophas Mutjavikua thanked Swakop Uranium for heeding to the call of Government to assist the needy and said that his office is honoured to have received the items on behalf of the other regions. He further urged other Companies to emulate the example set by Swakop Uranium as many communities in the Country are currently destitute and do not have the basic essentials to survive with decent shelter, food, and clothing.
