Back to School Campaign 2018

The 3rd Annual Back to School Campaign kicked off at a well-attended Handover Ceremony in Arandis on Wednesday 4 July,2018.

The Mayor of Arandis, Risto Kapendah thanked Swakop Uranium for feeding the vulnerable and for ploughing back into the Community. He called on the other Mines in the region to do the same.

He encouraged the learners present to work hard and not have any excuses for failing behind because their basic needs were being met through Swakop Uranium’s donation. He also urged the learners to desist from the use of drugs, alcohol and sexual activity.

He further mentioned that the Arandis Town Council has allocated a building for the soup kitchen to feed the vulnerable children and he called on the churches to mobilize and assist in their efforts.

Winnie Mukupuki, who spoke on behalf of the Foundation, mentioned that there are a significant number of under-privileged children in Arandis whose parents often struggle to provide them with the necessary basic school essentials such as food and school stationery. Moreover, schools are struggling to provide the necessary school supplies and sports equipment needed to make the learning process a fruitful one.

She further mentioned that it is with this in mind that in conjunction with the Arandis Town Council, the Swakop Uranium Foundation decided to re-launch the annual ‘Back to School Campaign’ in 2018 to address these needs.

The Arandis Town Council identified the neediest schools to be the recipients of the donation, and these are Arandis Primary School, UB Dax and the Kolin Foundation. As a result, food, school stationery and sports equipment to the value of N$36,421 was donated.

This donation falls under the Swakop Uranium Foundation’s Pillars of Education and Community Support and shows the Company's consistent support towards local community.
