Swakop Uranium and Rӧssing Uranium collaborated on a project to improve road safety on the B2 road between Swakopmund and Arandis. Both companies’ officially handed over a plaque which is symbolic to the Stimsonite studs that were installed over a distance of just over 40-kilometres. 
The ceremony was held on 31 August 2020 at the Road Authority Office in Swakopmund and the value of the joint-project was N$227,803.30, the costs were split between the companies.

Mr Lourens Delport, who is the Maintenance District Manager for the Roads Authority of Namibia received the plaque and thanked the two mining companies for their contribution towards road safety, he further said that this contribution goes a long way and will benefit other people and not just those from the Erongo. “your support is commendable” he concluded.

Stimsonite road studs are embedded type of reflective road studs for use on highways and other roads to improve delineating road markings on the surface of the road and increase a driver’s preview time before taking certain actions, particularly under wet or misty conditions and at night.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the company, Mr Angula Kalili, COO informed the audience that management was eager to support this project when they first received the request because even though Namibia has good road infrastructure, safety can be compromised at times due to congestion and weather conditions.  Swakop Uranium employees travel on this road daily and this was the main motivation for the company to team-up with Rӧssing Uranium to improve road safety on the B2 road.

Research shows that car accidents are the third biggest cause of death in the country and as a corporate citizen SU through this initiative wants to ensure safe driving on our roads.

This project also contributes to infrastructural development in Namibia and aligns with our CSR focus as well as our basic principle; Safety First, Quality Foremost, Pursuing Excellence.
