Namibia is currently hit by a third wave of COVID-19, which has already claimed the lives of many Namibians. As the number of daily new infections rose, it placed tremendous pressure on Namibian medical and emergency response facilities. In response to the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in Namibia and the dire shortage of medical and emergency supplies, the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with the Chamber of mines coordinated a unified approach to assist in this time of need. Swakop Uranium, through Swakop Uranium Foundation, pledges its support towards the call of donations.
Swakop Uranium has pledged to donate over 2 million Namibian Dollars’ worth of Oxygen, Oxygen Concentrators, Masks, as well as Beds and Mattresses.
Mr. Patrick Chizabulyo, Vice President at Swakop Uranium, attended the handover ceremony at the NUST Building in Windhoek on the 27 July, 2021. Speaking at the event, he said:” During these difficult times, where the nation has and continues to loose valuable lives, we have to stay focused and committed to winning the fight against COVID-19. Let me take this opportunity to also encourage all Namibians to go out in large numbers and get vaccinated to gain herd immunity. In addition, let us continue to adhere to the guidelines set out by the government, which include but are not limited to wearing your mask properly, hand sanitizing, and social distancing to minimize the impact of COVID-19.”
Swakop Uranium remains committed to the fight against COVID-19 and will continue to support the initiatives and measures taken by the Namibian Government aimed at the protection of Namibian lives.
