The SU Sanitary Pads Drive Distributes 2300 packs of Pads

Source: 2022-01-05

The Swakop Uranium Foundation embarked on a second Sanitary Pads Drive during November 2021 to collect voluntary donations of sanitary pads.  The campaign also focused on educating the community on the challenges faced by young girls in the community as a result of a lack of sanitary pads.

We are delighted to announce that a total of 2300 packs were distributed to girls in the Okombaye settlement just outside Usakos as well as at Tutaleni High School in Walvis Bay, between 7 – 9 December 2021.

The SU Sanitary Pads Drive was first launched in July 2021 and the primary focus is to ensure that school-going girls have access to sanitary pads during their menstrual period.

Multiple studies have found that girls in low-income settings miss or struggle at school during menstruation if it is not possible for them to effectively manage their menstrual hygiene which often comes with a stigma.

As an entity established to conduct CSR activities on behalf of Swakop Uranium, The Swakop Uranium Foundation prides itself in the efforts that empower underprivileged girls.

In extending appreciation to our Stakeholders during 2021, at the very beginning would be the many girls we have met on this journey who fearlessly shared their challenges as well as their plans.  We cannot wait to see the heights that they will reach in future.

To the employees of Swakop Uranium and the wider community of the Erongo Region who made donations and gave valuable suggestions. Your support is immeasurable and much appreciated.

Happy Holidays and be safe.
