Baster Meisie from Rehoboth Operating Big Machine – Mining is women’s too

Meet the versatile, working wife and mom, operating a 960E Haul truck on the Husab mine.  Juggling 3 shifts totaling 21 days a month, Elize Malander is one of the many Super women on the Husab mine.  As a Haul Truck Operator, she is part of the Continuous Operations Team of the Mining Department

She is grateful for being part of the Husab project since 2014, and says that it is a wonderful feeling to be part of this beautiful Namibian story and even more so for us that have been here since the beginning phase-just being able to grow with the Company is an achievement for many of us.  Husab mine is special because it is a partnership between the people of Namibia and China, which brings in diversity and more advanced technologies and industrial practices.

“Before joining Swakop Uranium, I was employed as a Personal Assistant at Chiropractic, so coming to Husab as the first lady in Operations was a big achievement for me and I count my blessings each day.  The Continuous Mining environment allows for professional and personal development every day.”

“Although it is impossible to predict the future, I believe that I will be a multi-skilled Operator in the near future. My dream is to be an Assistant Mine Overseer or to become the first lady Foreman in the Mining Department. Either way, I trust that wherever I end up within the Company, I will definitely be an asset.
