It’s bittersweet moment as Oom John Cloete bits farewell to the SU family after 6 and a half years. John is going off to the golden time of retirement. He is excited to start a new life, but sad to say goodbye to his SU family. Retirement can be lonely after a life with spent with dear colleagues and being each other’s keepers.

John is in good health and possession of a strong mind. He will dedicate his newfound free time to his own projects. “I will keep working”, he says.

“Looking ahead into the future, ‘Doing things right in one go’ is a CGN corporate slogan which we have also adopted at Swakop Uranium and now forms the foundation of my own vision for the next step in performance improvement at my new destination on the farm. The importance of these few words in the slogan refers to two key management principles, namely: continuous improvement and learning from mistakes. By successfully aligning to the principles of ‘Doing things right in one go’, I believe I will make use of the time and resources wisely for future survival.”

CEO had a chance to catch John for a chat before he goes. Mr. Qiu handed to John a company gift on behalf of the SU family and wished him success in his future projects. Mr. Simataa also bid him farewell. It was a proud moment and an honor for Uncle John. “I loved working here in SU. It feels like leaving home,” says John.
